Ethical Considerations in the Era of Data
May 7, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EDT
The purpose of this virtual event is to help the community to think about the ethical implications of data on individuals, society, and industry. Sometimes we forget, or get too busy, to consider if hasty handling and interpretation of data could support inappropriate conclusions and unintentionally encourage flawed actions or policies.
We will explore the ways in which data might hinder instead of help. Concrete examples of the ways in which our actions may go wrong will be provided. We will encourage the participants to think with us about how we might prevent data from supporting unethical actions. The audience will also be urged to think about how these considerations might apply in their own settings.
