Advanced Excel Concepts: Connecting, Transforming and Leveraging Data from Diverse Sources

In this Advanced Excel session, we will learn how to use Power Query to import and transform data from diverse sources into Excel. We will use the data with Pivot Tables and Conditional Formatting to create useful reports.

What participants can expect to gain?

Participants will gain an understanding of how and when to use Power Query to connect to diverse data sources including text or csv files, SQL and Access databases, and online sources like SharePoint lists. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how to use the Power Query (Get and Transform Data) tool to clean and shape the data by removing duplicates, transforming values, and splitting and combining columns.

Participants should have experience with Excel, including the use of tables and named ranges. Participants should be comfortable editing formulas in Excel. Participants should have access to a modern version of Excel (2016, 2019 or M365).

Short Bio: Catherine Thenault is an IT Professional with over 40 years of experience. Her current areas of focus are Content & Collaboration Management Systems including SharePoint, Teams, Office 365 and Microsoft’s Power Platform. She is also a facilitator and technical trainer for AIPSO. She is also a member of the local ATD chapter which provides great programming for Trainers and other roles involved in talent development. She thrives in the space where business problems and technical solutions intersect. When not working, she is happiest hiking, cycling, skiing, sailing, or spending time with friends and family cooking a great meal.

Our virtual event “Connecting, Transforming and Leveraging Data from Diverse Sources ” will be hosted on Microsoft Teams . If you have never logged into a Microsoft Teams before, be sure to give yourself time beforehand to download Teams.
